Colon cleansing

Recent report in the newspaper implied that colon cleansing for detoxification is part of aesthetic medicine and should be banned. This was inadvertently included among a list of procedures deemed dangerous and without any evidence of its benefits.

Unfortunately colon cleansing is a general term to describe a variety of measures undertaken to clear the colon of physical waste. This include the use of laxatives, intake of fiber, fasting and juicing regime as well as use of herbal cleansing formula or the use of enema and colonic irrigation. Such report may present more confusion and mislead the public.

While it is important that authorities highlight their concerns about unethical practices, it is equally important to avoid creating confusion.
